The Club provides a number of services to its members, the most popular being the Triumph Motorcycle Dating Service, and the Club Archives. If you have an old Triumph motorcycle that has never been registered, or one that the DVLA do not have any records for, and you wish to retain the original or obtain an age-related registration number plate then you need this service. Back in , the DVLA started computerising vehicle registrations. Before then registrations were carried out by County Councils or Borough Councils, but Centralised Registration pulled all these records together onto a computerised system. Of course, many registrations were lost or not transfered by the various councils, and when all the old records had finally been entered by about there were still many vehicles that were not on the new register. To apply for a Date Certificate for your Triumph motorcycle you need to get together as much documentation about your machine as possible, and as many photos as you can get your hands on. As a minimum you should have photos of both sides of the bike, the Engine Number, and the Frame Number.

By doogle , October 28, in Fantic. I am thinking of buying an aircooled Fantic and would want to get it road registered on an age related plate. Does anybody know who I could contact to get a dating letter? I am not sure who was the importer and if they are still going? Hi Doogle, you will need to contact the VMCC for this, they will send you a form to fill out with an explanation of how to proceed. As there isn’t a specific Fantic one on the list, you might need a little more help with this as the VMCC may not hold information on that bike, model, manufacturer.

We have now been approved by the DVLA to be included in their list of Clubs who can verify applications under their V scheme for Vehicle Registrations. There are two scenarios: the first is recovery of an original number and, secondly, application for an age-related number. The machine should be substantially complete, and you will need to obtain documentary evidence linking the machine to the original number.
Such evidence would be an old-style log-book, pre tax disc, MoT certificate, insurance certificate or registration information from archives or libraries. The completed V form and authenticated photocopies, along with photos of both sides of the machine and rubbings or clear photos of the frame and engine numbers, should be sent to me, Paul Hutton.
I am quite happy to receive original documents to photocopy and authenticate if you are happy to deliver them in person, or have faith in Royal Mail. Under most circumstances, an inspection will be necessary. We will arrange for a local member to carry out the inspection and send me a report.
